A beautiful little Tokyo bar

Friendly little bars are wonderful escapes wherever one happens to be. Each and every one offering a welcome chance to drink, unwind and briefly forget about all that’s going on in the wider world. And when they are as genuinely appealing as this place from the outside.

As well as incredibly calming the moment the door opens on the inside.

Then the only thing left to worry about is how difficult it’s going to be to leave.

The exterior is very strange and magical somehow.

Yes, I completely agree. Rather stark, and yet oddly beautiful. Very happy to have found it.

Likewise. A very lucky find. It was a last minute changed of plan, otherwise we’d have got on a train and never ever known about it…

What a wonderful find. And photographed at just the right moment. It would definitely be vying for a place in my top ten favourite photographs of yours.
It made me think of H G Wells’ short story, “The Door in the Wall”, about a perfect place a man discovered as a child but could never find again when he wanted to. I hope you can find this place again whenever the fancy takes you.
The apparent isolation of this small bar also brings to mind some of the photographs in Greg Girard’s “Phantom Shanghai” book.

Thank you. Took it just after leaving. And after many hours in there. So very pleased I still had the awareness to look back and get the shot. It’s way out west, so in a fairly rural area, hence the relative isolation. Wasn’t aware of that book. Thanks for mentioning it. Very interesting.

Happy to say I know exactly where it is. Bit of a way off, but nice to know it’s there should I be in the area again.

If the door had been more Western looking, the exterior of the bar really wouldn’t look so magical. As for its interior: so much less Zen looking than its outside, huh? 😉

Totally agree. A few little details really make it into something a bit special.

Haha, yes, rather different on the inside. All that clutter did, however, make it feel very comfortable. As did a good many beers!

The shape is wonderful, isn’t it? Even if it was possible to create a tree however you wanted, it’d be tough make one more perfect than this.
