A post-war or post-millennium Japanese bar?

Tokyo almost always seems to be in a state of flux. Buildings go up and down. Shops regularly change hands. Plus fads are often as fleeting as Japan’s famous cherry blossoms.

And yet the more the city changes, the more it somehow remains the same.

Love those kind of places! The grimier the better!

    Where is this one?

Yes, likewise. Can’t get enough of them.

This particular one is in Shinjuku.

Nice gritty shot. The place and some of the people look like they’ve been there forever. I’ll bet they serve a good drink and edible food.

I love these ‘showa-era’ style places, I do think they are getting more common but surely nobody would create new ones? Maybe the fashionable, shiny places keep going under and the quality and griminess prevails 🙂

Nah, I can’t imagine anyone creating a place like this from scratch. Even if they matched the decor, it’d take a good few years for the grime to build up!

So long as they keep surviving though, that’s the main thing.
