This old Tokyo tofu shop has been a favourite of mine for years. The way everything leans this way and that is incredibly appealing, and the huge sign above is without a doubt very special indeed. Or perhaps more accurately, it was special, as sadly it suffered irreparable damaged during a typhoon several years ago and has never been replaced.
Still, sign or no sign, there remains a lot to like, and as an added extra of sorts, the buildings behind the shop were recently demolished, exposing its similarly ramshackle rear.
Below then are some photos taken over the years. Images that date from 2018 to as recently as just last week.

Yep that sign is truly awesome! 🙂

Yeah, it really was. Very glad I got some photos of it.

These are so good Lee. What a store it is.

Thanks a lot, and yes, I couldn’t agree more. When in the area I always make a point of walking past.

A remarkable record of a fixed timeless point in Tokyo. There has been little change in the years of the shop front. Near identical angles and gaps and little additional signs of weathering (new guttering aside) gives me hope it has some more unaltered years ahead of it. Interesting to see the erar too.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, aside from the sign it’s amazing how little it has changed over the years.
I was pleased the back of the shop didn’t disappoint as well. Was hoping to get a photo of the fella coming out, but it didn’t happen. Maybe next time.

That second to last shot is stunning. The light is like the old Dutch masters.
Lee says
Thanks ever so much. Lovely when the light works out like that.

Brilliant photos, Lee. Thanks for sharing.
Your work always reminds me to take my camera out more often. Capturing places like this, especially over multiple years, perfectly embodies what photography means to me. The colours, the composition, and the simplicity of these shots are spot on.
Have a nice weekend.

Thanks a lot and you are very welcome. I never tire of seeing and photographing this place.
Cheers, that’s absolutely lovely to hear. Glad you like these and that they have prompted you to always have your camera ready as well. We really never know what we may find.
