A sword wielding Tokyo bar owner

When asked how the food was, I bowed deeply, and in the most reverential tone possible, told him it was the best I had ever tasted.

Your comment made me laugh — and maybe it’s my imagination but the bar owner does have a smirky smile on his face… ;b

That’s good to hear. And yes, he does have a rather mischievous grin!

It really was. Not at all what I was expecting to say the least!

What an excellent character – one of your rare semi-posed photographs, and it works so well. Does your camera have image stabilization? Or do you really have the nerves of steel required to keep it so steady under such circumstances?
Love your caption too – perfect start to lighten up a somewhat grim Friday.

Thanks. Yes, not often I go for posed shots, but there again, it’s not often I’m confronted with a sword wielding bar owner!

Nah, no image stabilisation, but it’s amazing the detachment looking through a viewfinder can create. Well, that and being a few beers to the good.

Cheers. That’s good to hear. Struggled initially trying to think of something to write, so happy that what I eventually came up with did the trick.

I have heard that viewfinder detachment has had serious repercusions for some photographers and filmographers who specialize in covering conflicts.

I can well imagine. Having a camera in front of your face does tend to make one braver. Doesn’t make any difference on the streets of Tokyo. Very little chance of something untoward happening. But in a conflict zone…

This is so good. The old guy looks really proud of himself. And who’s gonna argue?! 🙂

Cheers! He most certainly was. And yes, it’d be be a very brave or foolish man to say otherwise!
