A Tokyo kimono and winter ice cream

It was a cold day, quite windy too, but that clearly wasn’t going to deter this young woman from enjoying a winter, and obviously very welcome, ice cream.

Kimono are so beautiful and I love how its color matches the ice cream. Coincidence? I think not! 🙂

Looks like a “coming of age day” kimono (a brightly colored furisode).

Good call. A lot of similarities. The only thing is I took this recently, so a good while after Coming of Age Day. Not sure if such kimonos are ever repurposed for regular use or not.

These days, kimonos are mostly by people who practice traditional arts like koto; shamisen; flower arraigning (ikebana); traditional dance and the like. It doesn’t look like the kind of kimono that are for rent to tourists in Asakusa.
Or perhaps she was a patron of the Mokubakan Theater

Wish I was there, so much, although I’d be having black sesame flavor instead.

Very much a hot coffee for me!

I can imagine, but Japan is finally rolling out vaccines from this week, so at least things are moving in the right direction.
