Mildly amusing English usage #11

Now admittedly my knowledge of fashion is far from extensive, but since when have style and smell had anything to do with each other?

engrish sign

Yet as bizarre as the concept of aroma fashion is, it’s arguably nothing compared to smell based fashion sewing.

Harajuku homage

Regardless of how long I stay here, there are many (if not most) things about the Japanese that I will never truly understand.

To start with there is their overriding sense of conformity and fear of standing out from the crowd.

And perhaps because of this, it can be disheartening to never see anyone acting with a bit of spontaneity, or unashamedly making a show of themselves.

Plus whether it be fashion, furnishings, or even felines, cute is always the ultimate goal.

It can be ever so confusing…

Mildly amusing English usage #10

Unfortunately the label on the garment pictured below failed to say if its rather unforgiving use of English was aimed at any major in particular.

japlish fashion

But dedicated followers of fashion and high-ranking military personnel haters needn’t worry about causing offence. The colourful language is attached by velcro, allowing it to be removed when in polite company.

Vuitton verve

It’s often said that the Japanese hate confrontation of any kind, but it seems that even deeply rooted behavioural patterns can be overcome by the passion to posses branded goods.

As on Saturday in Fukuoka, a 23-year-old woman grabbed a male robber, and despite sustaining a wrist injury she managed to hold onto him until help arrived. Even after the 41-year-old criminal threatened to stab her the woman didn’t let go, and spurred on by brand bravado, she upped the pressure even further and grappled with him.

The thief’s mistake it seems was his choice of bag, as the lady later told the police, “He was trying to run away with my handbag which contained my precious Louis Vuitton purse, I wasn’t letting him go anywhere.”
