Bill’s busty bouncers

Whilst the Japanese love of cute characters is nothing new — with the police to popular foodstuff boasting a beaming beastie of some description or another — it still seems a little odd to see a similar creation connected to uncle Bill’s omnipresent operating system. Yet with the OS-tan brigade, that’s exactly what we get.

For example, here’s 2k-tan.

And this is ME-tan — the pair perfectly capturing the, erm, personality of their respective operating systems.

Sadly the current character set stops at XP, although judging by the video below, more prudish PC users would probably be proposing a promotion to XXXP.


The larger than life young lady perkily proclaiming something along the lines of, “Windows XP has booted up. You are up earlier than usual. I’m happy, we can spend more time together than usual.”

Which, further translated from geek-speak to regular English, comes out as, “Look at my bulging and bouncy breasts. Great aren’t they?”

Now all that remains is to see what levels of voluptuousness Vista may hold…

Bawling babies

Saturday saw Saikyoji Temple in Nagasaki Prefecture hold its annual baby crying competition, an event that pits the region’s yelling youngsters against one another in a sumo-style setting — the first toddler to cry after being tormented and terrified by the priest declared the winner.

Should both babies start sobbing at the same time however, the more booming bawler is awarded the victory. A ruling that certainly wasn’t required in the bout pictured below, with the little chap on the left comfortably securing the win.

The overall champion is rumoured to secure a selection of sedatives and five free visits to a child therapist.

Top Cat

With Japan’s declining population raising fears of a large influx of foreign workers, officials at the Wakayama Electric Railway Company have hit upon a novel way of avoiding such a problem — employ animals instead. An idea that it has put into practice at Kishi Station in Kinokawa by promoting Tama the tabby to stationmaster.

Resplendent in an official railway cap, the 7-year-old Kinokawa native will be expected to welcome passengers, and to avoid any feline-related friction, the two deputy stationmasters are also cats — the three of them being ‘housed’ at the station shop.

A solution that not only helps avoid any potentially awkward cultural misunderstandings, but makes perfect economical sense, as the three officials are ‘paid’ in cat food. Details regarding health insurance and pension payments however were not disclosed.

With the likes of latex love dolls, manga and latent Lolita complexes occasionally sharing common ground, one resourceful Japanese trio has cleverly combined elements of all three – creating a product/service that potentially triples its target audience.
