Seeing astonishingly drunk and asleep men, women, and even men dressed as women on the streets of Tokyo isn’t exactly what one would call rare. But seeing someone fast asleep in a position like this, probably is.
An unconscious prayer perhaps for a hangover that isn’t of biblical proportions.

It doesn’t bear thinking about, does it? Waking up with a rotten hangover in your own bed, on a day off, and with all the possible cures handy is bad enough, but on the street, potentially a long way from home, and surrounded by strangers must be truly horrible…

Funny how the guy’s wallet is still in his back pocket sticking up in the air; it is of course a bit of a cliché that Tokyo is so very safe, but I bet that in most places that I lived in somebody would have taken it or at least emptied it.

Yes, cliche or not, it’s absolutely true. That obviously struck me. His wallet there to be taken, and his bag just out of shot But when I saw him at least, everything was intact. Chances are it stayed that way too. An aspect of life here that Tokyo can be genuinely proud of.

I can’t get over the feeling that he must be awake because i don’t believe that the position he is in is very comfortable at all,maybe he is at least semi-conscious.

Nah, utterly out of it. After I’d taken the photos, a passing fella and I tried to rouse him, but we got nothing more than a faint mumble. He never budged an inch.
