The now standard but incredibly distracting hand sanitiser bottles and vinyl screens make shooting bars a lot more difficult these days. On the other hand, the similarly important need for ventilation can have some visual benefits. Or at least it can for those stood on the outside looking in.
Additionally, the open windows allow for some much needed fresh air to come into the bar when customers are smoking. What to do when it gets too cold to keep the windows open?!?
That’s a very good question. The numbers here at least are now incredibly low, although becoming complacent and forgetting about ventilation and the like could easily cause them to go back up again…
I love the 3 views into the bar but I like *that* look the best! 😉
Haha, it is quite the look, isn’t it?
What a triptych! It hints at the isolation of ‘Nighthawks’ and introspection into the distance.
That sanitiser bottle hangs on in, in the ‘garland’ around the window; the pipe, the aircon, the bike and the light, but it does so with more limited charm.
Cheers. Yeah, I do like the 3 very different scenes. Definitely a nod to Nighthawks as well. That immediately came to mind when I saw it.
Couldn’t agree more. Bottles that seem set to be around for a long time to come as well…
Great photograph. It contains so much that says Japan to me. Aside from the bar itself there is the lantern, the fusebox, the price tags, the wall fan, the aircon, the vending machine, and of course, front and centre, the mamachari.
It seems so long since our last visit I think the feeling I’m getting is nostalgia. Hope we can correct that before too long.
Thank you. Yeah, it’s a very Japanese scene for sure. Ticks so many boxes. Just noticed the plastic umbrella too.
Hopefully. Japan is currently doing very well, but at the same time the country seems intent on keeping its borders very tightly sealed. A factor that undoubtedly has played a part in those low numbers, but with the vaccine rate going great guns, an easing of restrictions will, all being well, happen sooner rather than later. There again, a lot depends on this latest strain I suppose…
I’d hoped to go back to Britain this winter, but was put off by the 10 day quarantine we are required to do on our return, plus the extra expense and hassle of tests and transportation back here from the airport. Doubly glad I didn’t book now, as going by Japan’s reaction to the new strain, I’d have been worried about being let back in.
Another great pic! BTW, I think that this being (pandemic) time-specific is not necessarily a bad thing.l
Thanks a lot. Pleasantly surprised how well this one came out. And yeah, it actually benefits from the current situation in many ways. The woman running it with the mask on works as well.
