Late spring Tokyo street portraits

Before the heat and humidity really start to pick up next month, here is a series of late spring street portraits. Some taken on my Tokyo Photowalk Tours, with others shot on solo outings, but all of them, I hope, provide little vignettes of daily life in the Japanese capital.

Thanks a lot. Very happy with all those for different reasons.

Wonderful photos! And breathtaking to zoom in on the details… especially the eyes of the woman in the doorway.

Thank you very much. It really is something to see what a modern sensor can produce. I can only imagine what digital medium format images must look like.

    Brilliant set again Lee.
As the filth of a Japanese street restaurant and the taste of the dishes are inversely proportional, number 9 must deserve a Michelin star! The bricks are twice as thick with grease as with… well, brick!

A fascinating set of photographs. I especially like the guy lost in his phone, and the lady looking up at you from hers. Those glass and metal slabs reaching into every moement.
The hole in the wall stood out most though. Probably because I have just read chapters 14 through 16 of Down and out in Paris and London which cover the nature of commercial kitchens and cleanliness.

Thanks a lot. I like those ones as well. Unexpected scenes that I was glad to be able to capture.

That place is quite something, isn’t it? Seen it a few times, but the first time I’ve managed to get a photo. Next is to see how it looks inside.

That yakitori bar would be real good right now! 🙂

The red eye makeup and look of surprise in the first image contrasts with what calm reponse from what appears to be a regular Tokyo Photowalk model in the second. The guy on the bike seems to be leaning into a bit of motorcycling style wheelspin and the shoeshop man not avoiding your eye but looking for his dog.

Yeah, the contrast of the first two I really like. Two very different looks in every sense. Good call about shoe shop man too!
