Old Tokyo bar expressions

This bar is incredibly photogenic, but as ever, it’s the people that make it truly interesting. And this man, with his wonderfully expressive face, is another lovely example.

For more photos of this bar and its fascinating array of regulars, my slowly growing series can be seen here.

I know that feeling. I think he got served something he wasn’t expecting! 😉

Yes, quite possibly. Very easily done.

Haha, I do. Of that there’s no doubt. I’m in the area quite often, and simply can’t resist going past to see if there’s anyone interesting in there.

That approach might explain the Yasukuni Shrine visits also.

Yes, I think it probably does. That possibility of someone (or at least something) of interest, is simply too tempting.

Cheers! It really does make photography easy. A real gift. And yeah, it’s quite a look, isn’t it?

That would be a superb face to put in an illustrated dictionary alongside the definition of glum.
Perhaps a piece of the lamp fell into his food.
The guy to his left doesn’t exactly look to be full of joie de vivre either. Must just have been a bit of a dour day all round.

Your portfolio for this bar must be close to having enough for a book by now. And on that front, I took delivery of a book called “1972” today that features fifty or so photographs by Noritaka Minami of the Nakagin Capsule Tower. It’s exactly the sort of format (24x28cm pages) and quality well suited to photograph collections. Bit of a nerd purchase, but as my wife was kind enough to induge me with a visit to said tower last year, I thought I’d skip it this year and get the book instead. Anyway, to get back on point, the book was assited partly (USD 22000) by crowdfunding, https://tinyurl.com/yazllt5f, (which is where I came across it), and by the Graham Foundation.

Glum is definitely the right word. The lamp, the food, or perhaps just a lousy day?

That looks like a very nice purchase. Lovely quality and photos. Managed to evade security in there a couple of times and have a look round, but never felt comfortable and expected to get rumbled the whole time. It really is a fascinating place though, isn’t it?

I’d need quite a few more photos I think, although combined with other bars I’d have a good number.
