Despite Japan’s cool biz energy saving campaign being in its second year, many a bungling bureaucrat and stick-in-the-mud salary man still can’t quite get to grips with the concept of shedding the standard jacket and tie for something a little more casual — or cool even.
Veteran politician Hiroyuki Hosada almost got it right with this brightly coloured Okinawan top, but then blew it at the last moment by inexplicably putting it on over his stuffy shirt and tie.

Still, Hosada-san’s brave effort wasn’t necessarily a bad one when compared to the unusual attire of this cool biz baffled businessman.

Despite what medical experts may claim, not all fruit it seems is healthy.

Tokyo it has to be said isn’t the greenest city in the world, but city planners at last appear to be making something of an effort. The creation of several small parks in the city’s business district allowing weary workers the chance to enjoy a spot of nature and a well earned break.

No cycling though.
Slowly but surely Japan is adopting tougher measures to combat smoking, with tobacco related bylaws restricting where people can or can’t smoke, plus also dealing with issues such as the throwing away of cigarette butts.
That said, the emphasis is still very much ‘manner’ related, with how (rather than if) you smoke being priority number one.

With this in mind, the district where the picture below was taken clearly points out that smoking is allowed; however doing so in an elaborate and/or aloof manner is strictly forbidden.
