Pervert pandemic

“Conditions are so bad, it’s fair to say that railway carriages are virtual groper incubators.”

Samu Yamamoto, author of Chikan no Hyakka (Encyclopedia of Groping).

Quotes like this, and a recent announcement by Tokyo’s largest train operator that it is begrudgingly considering women-only carriages, show how bad the situation has become. But there again, perhaps such information isn’t really necessary, as if it’s possible to produce an encyclopedia on the subject, then there must be an awful lot of it about.

This is really terrible. I really dislike perverts and gropers anywhere, though I feel bad for them at the same time, since they can’t help themselves. I feel bad for the young women too, especially on trains. They have no where to go if they meet a groper or a pervert, since the train is usually very crowded. I hope that they would separate the train for genders soon.

I’ve been on the railway in Japan, and I wasn’t groped once… but there was a man in the women’s only carriage… and he looked like he clearly knew it was the womens only carriage too. o-O
