Some soba, a parasol and the stifling September heat

October may well be just around the corner, but the summer-like temperatures have made September a stifling one to say the least — the heat and humidity simply don’t want to say sayonara.

Conditions that a parasol and that summer favourite, cold soba,

Japanese parasol

can’t even counter.

Is that a sword in his obi?

I honestly don’t know Ken. It wasn’t until I was editing the photos that I noticed it myself. And as I left him to it once I’d took the photos, it’ll sadly have to remain a mystery. That said, what else could it be…?

Looks a bit weird shaped to be a sword handle to me (and too long for it too). Perhaps an extension for the shaft of the parasol?

That’d certainly make more sense than a (hopefully fake) sword!

Cheers! Sitting there alone with his parasol, he did have an almost otherworldly quality to him.

    It’s really lovely.

How do you take such a wonderfully composed candid shot without the gentleman seeming to notice?

      Thanks lyd.

I basically try to be as discreet and quick as possible. In this particular case there were a lot of people passing by, so I had to be extra quick. As soon as I saw him, I knew the photograph I wanted, it was then just a case of trying to capture it without him catching me!

He’s using the umbrella because it’s raining or too much sun!?

Because of the sun, it was a very hot September…
