The comfort and calm of a traditional Tokyo restaurant

On a bright but cold December day, the comfort and quiet ambience of a traditional, family run Tokyo restaurant, really does take some beating.

You are welcome. And very glad to hear it helped a little.

This really captures a moment. If you’ve ever slung hash for a living, there’s a focused, quiet time before you get any customers, before you “open the doors”, or between shifts, that’s about as peaceful as anything gets. Setting up, getting ready, it’s just you and the work. The light, this guy’s calm deliberation, the stillness – that’s it, right there. Nice.

Thank you. That’s really good to hear. Never done that kind of work, so excellent to know the scene captures an element of restaurant life. It was a genuinely peaceful little place. No blaring TV or overly attentive owner. Just a very quiet, laid back atmosphere. A wonderful find.

Mine too. Really enjoyed our time there. A chance find that was exactly what we were looking for.

I’m a big fan of this one. It looks so relaxing compared to modern lunch options. Great find.

It is interesting to see how these smaller shop owners collect memorabilia from years gone by. I see less in this shot, but clearly some items of significance grace the walls of his shop.

Yes, invariably they are a treasure trove of times gone by, family history etc. Around the walls were photos of the shop back in the day, plus local events, sports teams and festivals. The area has changed a lot, but it was interesting to get an idea of what it was once like.
