The varied sights of a rainy Tokyo walk

Just like every city, Tokyo has its problems and regular irritations, but one of the capital’s many positive attributes is the sheer variety of sights and scenes it’s possible to see on a daily basis. These then are some moments and unique locations spotted on an unexpectedly less than warm meander during the middle of last week.

Great set, Lee. What an opener. The colors are stunning.

A meander on a drizzly day, I can almost smell the rain in your photos. Palpably real.

Thank you, that’s really good to hear. It was thankfully a very manageable amount of rain that was on and off throughout the day.

The products in the vending machine in shot 5 are likely to be a bit old, too….

They are. Very odd indeed. All kinds of things in those machines!

Not exactly related, but I just got really excited a minute ago recognizing your photos “in the wild” here: https://aeon.co/essays/the-life-changing-magic-of-japanese-clutter They’re so recognizable, love em! Now to go back and actually read the article… haha

Thanks a lot. A real treat to have my photos along such an interesting and well written article.

And cheers. Very nice to hear they were recognisable.

I love the opening shot too, but there’s so much to see in the second one. They really built the apartment block above and around the two old places didnt they? Holdouts who didn’t want to sell, I guess. Is that corner tighter than 90 degrees or is that just how it looks? Really focusses the eye.
Also shot 7 should be a jigsaw puzzle, the colours are spectacular.

Thank you. Yeah, that land must be worth quite a bit to say the least. Lots of construction around there at the moment. I think it is tighter than 90 degrees too.

A jigsaw puzzle of that really would be something. Wanted a shot of that for ages, but the light was never right. Good to finally get one.

Popcorn vending machine. Still thinking it over.

Another interesting set of photos, Lee. Guessing it was fun putting this set together, and it turned out well.

Probably just thinking about it the best option.

Thanks a lot. I wasn’t quite sure what the walk would produce, but it was a fun one with some decent results.
