Tokyo gamblers between races

In the downtime between each race, the trusty comforts of Tokyo’s committed gamblers are the same, simple staples enjoyed the world over, namely cheap booze.

And a steady supply of tobacco.

Oh the one cup ozeki. Those have always given me a little headache, especially after making them warm. Boat races? Or bicycle races?

I’ve never had enough to get to that stage, but I can well imagine…

Neither! This was outside a big JRA building.

Mine too. Or if he did, he was hiding it incredibly well.

What’s with the guy behind the smoker , he’s looking really dirty. Is that wet mark on the back of his pants?

Nah, just dirty. That area has a fair number of homeless and semi-homeless, so that explains it…

That’s an incredible focus you have on the smoker. The turbulance of the smoke, the flecks of ash, the texture of his cap.
There are some nice colour touches too with the woman in green beside the green store front and the woman in purple matching the next building down.
A real street photograph to aspire to.

Thank you very much. It all came together quite nicely, although to be honest the man and the movement of the smoke were what I was really intent on capturing.
