Tokyo restaurant preparation, and purification

Before opening up for lunchtime diners, the usual food preparation is required, along with several pinches of salt for purification*.

    Watching the Sumo at the weekend I think purification. But that linked article makes interesting reading.
    Reminds me of when I first came across small piles of flour around our village. Took me ages to learn they were a result of a form of paperchase where someone marked out the course with them.
    Love the wooden noren pole hangers over the doorways.

      That would be (and was) my guess, especially as it isn’t in a neat pile, but that article did put some doubt in my mind.

      Hopefully there wasn’t rain that day as it would likely have resulted in total confusion.

      Yeah, there’s so much to like about the exterior of this place. Photographed it quite a few times trying/hoping to get someone coming out of both doors. Got near a few times, but never quite right. Then I got this which was is something I hadn’t thought about at all.
