Doll devotees

Due to the increasing availability of rental options and room-hire services — plus magazines devoted to the subject — it’s perhaps not surprising that state-of-the-art silicone sex dolls are becoming more and more popular in Japan; however despite the high cost, a growing number of men are opting to buy rather than rent — hygiene concerns being a possible factor.

Yet unfortunately for some gentlemen, latex love appears similar to Pringles, as once they’ve popped they simply can’t seem to stop, resulting in a surrender of sorts to silicone satisfaction.

Handle with care

With the end of year festivities fast approaching, and salary men the length and breadth of the country set to splurge their bonuses on unnecessary goods and obligation gifts, online retailers like Amazon and Rakuten are keen to cash in on such money inspired madness.

Meaning that traditional Japanese presents such as food and drinks will face stiff competition from more unconventional items; a selection of cooked meat for example arguably looking a little lifeless next to a delivered to the door leotard-clad lady friend.

Tokyo tormentor

Police in Saitama Prefecture, just north of Tokyo, charged a 20-year-old on Monday for violating the animal protection law after allegedly killing a cat and then posting pictures of the dead pet on the internet.

The unnamed man is suspected of capturing the unfortunate animal in a nearby park, and then repeatedly stomping on it in the bathroom of his Tokyo apartment — the disturbing deed later recorded on a camera-equipped mobile phone.

Numerous complaints about the images eventually spurred the police into action; however regardless of the rather unsavoury nature of the incident, the accused appears utterly unrepentant, telling investigating officers that he finished off the feline out of a sense of justice because cats torment squirrels and mice.

A sentiment that despite garnering huge support amongst Japan’s large rodent population is expected to have somewhat less of an effect on the nation’s judiciary.

Multitudinous mirrors

Japan’s narrow roads are often far from ideal for the common cyclist, especially in Tokyo; an abundance of amber gamblers further adding to the danger, with the practice appearing to be a requirement for the majority of motorists rather than a relatively rare risk.

A concern seemingly not lost on the bicycling old boy below, who, after a touch of two-wheeled tinkering, should have no problems whatsoever keeping an eye out for possible perils.

All blind spots well and truly banished.
