Seaman shame

A Maritime Self-Defence Force (MSDF) member has been arrested for the bizarre crime of abusing a lower-ranking colleague who refused to have his hair permed.

The unnamed 34-year-old at the centre of the scandal allegedly told a younger member to “get a short perm.” But being both rebellious and presumably fashion conscious, the 20-year-old refused, and instead opted for a more up-to-date and manageable short haircut.

This decidedly uncurly crop sent the perm loving and rather appropriately ranked petty officer into a rage, and he forced his short-haired colleague on to his knees whilst pointing an airgun at him.

Not surprisingly a complaint was registered, with an MSDF official commenting that, “After we confirmed the details, we decided to arrest him because we believe what he committed was vicious.”

Whether this was in reference to gun pointing or perm ordering wasn’t disclosed.

For Chist’s sake!

Personally, if I were producing an item of clothing bearing the name of a famous personality or film (or in this case a combination of the two), I’d probably give the spelling a quick check before the design was finalized.

Not so the makers of a rather colourful baseball cap I came across recently. As is always the case in these situations, I didn’t have a digital camera with me. Having to make do with my rather limited camera phone. But that said, the design’s glaring error is still clearly visible in all its misspelled glory.

Jeanist jamboree

For the second year running, singing sensation Ayumi Hamasaki has been awarded the, ahem, prestigious Best Jeanist prize. Yes, you read that right. Jeanist!

Still, if nothing else, it gives me a (relatively) valid reason to post a picture of the rather attractive Ms. Hamasaki. Sporting jeans of course.

Pretty in pink

The picture below could be construed as a gratuitous shot of a young lady in a (relatively) short skirt. But that I hasten to add, couldn’t be further from the truth.

Partaking in my hobby of photographing speeding trains, the young lady in question just happened to step in front of the lens. And with her skirt being such a lovely shade of pink, I thought the picture might be worth sharing.

Next week, pictures of other short-skirted women standing in front of speeding orange trains.

Mathematical musings

During a debate in 1860 between the Anglican Archbishop of Oxford University, Samuel Wilberforce, and evolutionist and agnostic Thomas Huxley, the latter asserted that given sufficient time, all the possible combinations of matter (including those necessary to produce a man), would eventually occur by random chance.

This exchange prompted Huxley to famously ask Wilberforce for the services of 6 monkeys that would live forever, and 6 typewriters that would never wear out. Arguing that given an infinite amount of time, the monkeys would eventually type the complete works of Shakespeare. Rumour also has it that Wilberforce, a skilled mathematician, was forced to concede the truth of Huxley’s point and lose the debate as a result.

Now as Monkeys are somewhat unpredictable, and typewriters are quickly becoming a thing of the past, I’d like to give Huxley’s theory a more modern touch. So I declare that given an infinite number of Japanese people, and an infinite number of badly worded t-shirts, the complete works of J.K. Rowling would eventually be produced.

Up to now I’m a bit far away from the infinite mark, but here are 3 for starters.
